Sending a Quote Request

A quote request is the main way to get in touch with a tradesperson on SpainTrades. This guide explains how to write a good one, how to attach photos, and how to track what happens next.

What Is a Quote Request?

A quote request is a message you send to a specific tradesperson describing the job you need doing. It's not a commitment to hire β€” it's an invitation for the tradesperson to review your job details and respond with a price, ask follow-up questions, or arrange a site visit.

You'll need a free customer account to send quote requests. If you haven't registered yet, visit spaintrades.es/register/customer β€” it takes about two minutes.

What Information to Include

The more clearly you describe the job, the better and faster the response you'll get. A good quote request includes:

  • What needs doing β€” be specific. "Fix a leak" is far less useful than "dripping tap on the main bathroom basin, constant drip, tap is approximately 10 years old"
  • Where the job is β€” town or area, and the type of property (apartment, villa, commercial premises)
  • Your timeframe β€” is this urgent, or are you planning ahead for next month?
  • Access details β€” are you resident full-time, or will the tradesperson need to coordinate key access with a neighbour or agent?

Attaching Photos

Photos are one of the most useful things you can include. A clear photo of the job lets a tradesperson give a much more accurate quote and often avoids the need for an unnecessary site visit. You can attach up to 5 photos per request (JPEG or PNG, max 10 MB each).

Good photos to include: an overview of the area, a close-up of the problem or area to be worked on, and any existing fixtures or fittings that will be replaced or worked around.

Choosing a Contact Method

On the quote request form, you'll be asked how you'd like the tradesperson to get back to you:

  • Platform Message β€” the tradesperson replies through SpainTrades and all messages appear in your Quotes inbox. This keeps everything in one place and is the default option
  • Email β€” the tradesperson can also reply to your registered email address
  • Phone β€” your phone number is shared with the tradesperson so they can call you

What the Tradesperson Receives

When you submit your request, the tradesperson receives a notification in their dashboard and an email alert. They can see your job description, photos, preferred contact method, and timeframe. They cannot see your personal phone number or email unless you've selected those as your preferred contact method.

Tracking Your Request in the Dashboard

Log in to your customer dashboard and click My Quotes to see all your requests and their current status:

  • Pending β€” your request has been delivered and is awaiting a response
  • Responded β€” the tradesperson has replied. Open the thread to continue the conversation
  • Expired β€” no response was received within the allowed window. Try another tradesperson

Can You Contact Multiple Tradespeople?

Yes β€” there is no limit on how many quote requests you can send. For larger or more expensive jobs, it's good practice to contact two or three tradespeople and compare their responses before deciding. This also gives you a realistic sense of market pricing for the job.

What Happens If There's No Response

Response time varies by tradesperson and is shown on their individual profile. SpainTrades does not guarantee a response time across all tradespeople. If a request expires with no reply, try another tradesperson from the search results β€” most active tradespeople on the platform respond within 48 hours.
